About Central Locking Relays

The Vauxhall central locking relay is a key part of the electronic central locking mechanism on a vehicle. This system is complex, and consists of various actuators and relays. Power is sent to the Vauxhall central locking relay from the battery, via a fuse. The relay then sends this power to the actuator, and the actuator opens the door lock switch. To close, the polarity is reversed. The Vauxhall central locking relay is usually located in the driverside door behind the door trim.

Because of its position, it’s possible the Vauxhall central locking relay may get wet as a result of localised rust. This will cause the Vauxhall central locking relay to malfunction, and will need to be replaced. Other damage to the Vauxhall central locking relay can be caused by faulty wiring. If there is an issue with the Vauxhall central locking relay, or any other part of the central locking system you will be unable to operate the central locking system. This means that you will be unable to lock or unlock doors causing potential security issues. It’s therefore important to repair any central locking issues as a matter of urgency.

Vauxhall trivia

  • If you're looking for a real bargain, you can't go wrong with the Vauxhall Viva. This small hatchback is the cheapest model that Vauxhall makes!
  • If you thought you were seeing mostly grey Vauxhalls on the road, your eyes aren't going funny. It's the most popular colour for Vauxhall cars.
  • The Lotus Elise might seem like a far way away from the average Vauxhall, but they do have some matching parts. Alright, so it's nothing engine wise, but the Corsa does have the same indicator and wiper stalks that can be found on the Series 2 Lotus Elise.
  • The colour yellow that Vauxhall uses on its cars is named 'Maddox Yellow,' after pensioner Richard Maddox had his Corsa vandalised. Residents of the small village of Arlington where Maddox lived thought the car and the colour were ugly!
  • Not only did Vauxhall produce the first sports car in the world, but it was also the first company to produce a car that could go 100mph!
