About Suspension Coil Springs
A Vauxhall suspension coil spring is a strong metal spring which is located in the front of the vehicle. Its primary function is to absorb the shock transferred to the vehicle when it drives over bumps in the road. The Vauxhall suspension coil spring works by compressing when the vehicle drives over the bump. It’s this compression that diffuses the amount of pressure that is experienced by the vehicle and smooths the ride.
Vauxhall suspension coil springs each have a rating, and it is important that if you replace a Vauxhall suspension coil spring you replace it with one of the same rating. If one Vauxhall suspension coil spring is damaged, both the coil springs in the vehicle should be replaced to ensure that the vehicle is driving with two matching rate springs. It is also likely that if one Vauxhall suspension coil spring is damaged, the other is also damaged.
If a Vauxhall suspension coil spring breaks, you are likely to hear it snap. This can be confirmed by examining the spring. Tyres can jump or wear unevenly if your vehicle has a broken spring.
Vauxhall trivia
- The Vauxhall Vectra was the last car they ever produced in Luton, and it went on to become one of their most poorly reviewed vehicles. Top Gear even put the '95 Vectra on their list of the worst cars of the last 20 years (Clarkson wouldn't even drive it!).
- WWII got in the way of making cars, as Vauxhall started building the famous Churchill tank instead. It was designed and started rolling out of the factory in less than a year, and they made over 5,600 of them!
- Alexander Wilson founded Vauxhall back in 1857 as a pump and marine engine manufacturer. It then moved onto building cranes before starting to finally make cars in 1903.
- The Vauxhall flagship vehicle is the Vauxhall Insignia. The family car has been in production since 2008 and was designed to replace the Vectra and the Signum. In the US, the Insignia is known by the rather grandiose name ‘Buick Regal’.
- There’s a Vauxhall for everyone. They currently produce 21 different cars in three different ranges: the passenger car, the commercial car, and four different high-performance VXR models.
