About Indicator Wing mirrors

All indicators on vehicles are designed to let other road users know that a vehicle is about to make a turn or change lanes. Some vehicles are fitted with indicators on the wing mirrors. Indicators on wing mirrors are positioned on the front-facing section of the mirror on the opposite side to the mirror itself. These give extra warning to other road users especially from a head-on or side viewpoint. The wing mirror indicator is located on the side of the vehicle and is usually attached to the door. Some vehicles have the option of wing mirrors that can be electrically folded flat against the vehicle when not required.

The wing mirror indicator, along with all other indicators, is operated by a lever or stalk on the steering column. When the stalk is pushed down or up either the left or right indicators will flash regularly until the stalk is pushed back to its middle position.

If a wing mirror indicator fails to operate it is most likely due to a blown bulb, poor connections between the bulb and the bulb-holder or an indicator relay malfunction.

Vauxhall trivia

  • There’s a Vauxhall for everyone. They currently produce 21 different cars in three different ranges: the passenger car, the commercial car, and four different high-performance VXR models.
  • It's the Corsa that is, by far, the most popular make produced by Vauxhall. Even as late as 2019, there were twice as many Corsa sales as there were of any other type of car.
  • The Vauxhall flagship vehicle is the Vauxhall Insignia. The family car has been in production since 2008 and was designed to replace the Vectra and the Signum. In the US, the Insignia is known by the rather grandiose name ‘Buick Regal’.
  • WWII got in the way of making cars, as Vauxhall started building the famous Churchill tank instead. It was designed and started rolling out of the factory in less than a year, and they made over 5,600 of them!
  • The Vauxhall Vectra was the last car they ever produced in Luton, and it went on to become one of their most poorly reviewed vehicles. Top Gear even put the '95 Vectra on their list of the worst cars of the last 20 years (Clarkson wouldn't even drive it!).
