Fiat Uno Common Problems and Solutions
Idling problem
Problem:
A common problem on the Fiat Uno is for the engine to cut out when idling, and sometimes it can be difficult to start after this happens. The usual cause of this problem is for a faulty coolant sensor.
Solution:
You will need to replace the coolant sensor if this is the problem. It could also be related to the distributor, which usually means the vacuum advance pipe is leaking (check the starting problem above).

Braking problem
Problem:
If you have noticed that the brakes are really spongy when you first start the car, you most likely have a leak somewhere in the rear brakes. The usual cause is a leak with the wheel cylinder.
Solution:
You will have to identify exactly where the leak is coming from and if it is the wheel cylinder, you will need to replace this part to resolve the issue.

Car overheating
Problem:
It is known on the Fiat Uno for the engine to overheat, which could be caused by a broken Cylinder Head gasket or a broken thermostat.
Solution:
If there is water leaking out the overflow or white smoke coming out the exhaust, it is the cylinder head gasket. Otherwise, replace the thermostat. The video below is showing signs of blown cylinder head gasket!

Starting problems
Problem:
If you have found the engine on your Uno is starting properly or is cutting out, then two problems are the main causes of this on the Uno. The first thing to check is the vacuum advance, which can be damaged, resulting in a leak in the pipe. Another cause could be the ECU being faulty.
Solution:
You will need to identify if it is the vacuum advance or the ECU. If it is the vacuum advance, you will need to buy a replacement pipe or if it is the ECU, you will need to replace the ECU.

Scraping Noise From Gearbox
Problem:
The gearbox is making a scraping noise that goes when you press down on the clutch while idling but returns when driving at normal speeds.
Solution:
Firstly, check that there is enough lubrication in the gearbox, and apply if it is overly dry. If the situation persists, you will have damaged drive shafts, which you can order replacements from our drop-down parts list.

Excessive Vibrating
Problem:
The car has started to vibrate a lot while accelerating. This is often accompanied by a sudden drop in power.
Solution:
There are a few things that you can try here. Start by ordering new spark plugs from our online store and replace any worn-out ones. If that doesn’t solve the problem and there are no obvious issues with the wires that go to the spark plugs, then the problem is being caused by a broken fuel injector. We have plenty of these in stock for the Uno and can deliver a replacement straight to you.
