With the new iOS 7.1 update Apple's customers will notice the new motoring CarPlay app. The free 214 MB 7.1 download is one of the most compelling updates in recent times which contains improvements, lingering bug fixes and new features. These fixes and improvements include changes to Siri, iTunes Radio, Calendar, Accessibility, Camera settings, FaceTime,Touch ID and lots more. The most significant update is the new CarPlay app which is designed specifically for motoring.
Apple's CarPlay integration and features
Apple's CarPlay is everything you will ever need if you own an iPhone 4 or later, iPad 2 or later and the latest iPod touch.
Older technology is simply not capable of running this type of software. This is because they just do not have the power and they need special lightning connectors to operate the CarPlay.
No cars currently offer CarPlay, but they will be available this year. Furthermore, not all cars will be able to accept the new app. At present, it is only compatible on selected cars for 2014 which include Ferrari FF, Honda, Hyundai, Mercedes-Benz C-Class and Volvo XC90 SUV. The majority of other car makers are now devoted to offer Apple CarPlay in their future models.
Currently, Mercedes-Benz is the only car maker bringing CarPlay accessories into its older cars. Nevertheless, it will not be long before other manufacturers offer aftermarket accessories for their older cars.
No third-party apps will be added by Apple, unless they support Siri voice controls. Apps supporting Siri presently include Beats Music, iHeart Radio, Spotify and Stitcher.
Apple are dedicated to supporting drivers with the best apps which offer minimal distractions.
Siri is integrated as a CarPlay assistant, it is designed to promote minimal distractions when driving. When driving, using Siri helps drivers focus more compared to touching an app. You will be able to talk to your car and ask it to play your favourite music, radio station, have messages read from your emails, load maps and more.
The Apple touch screen will be available in some cars as most drivers are accustomed with this interface so the display will be a breeze to use. However, touch screen involves taking one's eyes of the road and it is believed that this kind of distraction could result in a fatal accident. Campaigners are not convinced that this new CarPlay assistant is safe whether touch screen, or using Siri.
Researchers are convinced that Apple's CarPlay is as dangerous as using a mobile phone, or texting while driving. Studies have discovered that any hands-free device being used while driving causes mental overload and reaction time becomes slower. We live in a world of multitasking, which ultimately can cause the brain function to become compromised.
