Audi is the number 1 vehicle when it comes to the Chinese market. Audi have managed this achievement mainly due to the fact that they have been in the country for almost 26 years now. Last year they celebrated their 25th anniversary in China, which they entered the market back in 1988. This happened when The Volkswagen Group partnered with the Chinese automobile manufacturing company Yiqi, and when you compare this to the likes of BMW, who entered the market 15 years later in 2003. This gave them a massive head start of some of their closest rivals. Audi is well established as the top premium brand in China and is a very popular choice of vehicle for government officials and young successful people. As the Chinese economy is going through an upwards surge at the minute, making it the second largest in the world, this has seen a great improvement in the automobile economy. China now has the largest automobile economy in the world, with Audi having the biggest share. In 2013 alone, there was almost 500,000 Audi vehicles sold and German built vehicles dominate the market. Between Volkswagen, Audi, Mercedes and BMW, they hold a massive 80% share of the market. The Chinese government are trying to respond to this German domination by encouraging people to support local Chinese automobile manufacturing companies, particularly for official governmental use. We think it will be a while before any Chinese manufacturer will be able to compete with Audi in the Chinese market, despite the governments best efforts. What do you think?
