These cars were available in saloon and estate versions, and the Audi 90 was an upmarket version of the Audi 80. The Audi 80 competes with the likes of the BMW and Mercedes compact executive cars and really is a classy motor. They are worth paying that extra bit for, as they are reliable, well built and great to drive. How did your Audi 80 perform?

Audi 80 History

The Mk I Audi 80 (1972-80) was built as a replacement for the Audi 72 and F103 series. This car won European car of the year in 1973. This car had a makeover in 1976 which mainly affected the front end and headlights.

The Mk II (1978-86) was designed on the new Volkswagen B2 platform and in 1984 received a makeover, which was the version where the Audi 90 was released. The makeover mainly affected the bumpers, headlights and some changes to the interior.

The Mk III (1986-91) was again built on a different platform and was much rounder and more aerodynamic looking than its predecessor. It was the first car to receive zinc coated body of this size, which helped with corrosion. There were a lot of different engines available for this model.

The Mk IV (1991-96) was longer than its predecessor and changed many of the parts including improvements to the interior design. This was really the first Audi 80 version that could compete with the luxury mid-sized cars like BMW and Mercedes. This model was extremely popular and was the last Audi 80 produced in 1996 when it was replaced with the Audi A4.
