Audi S3 Overview

The Audi S3 is classed as a sports version of the small family car Audi A3. These cars are produced by the German automobile manufacturing company Audi, which is a subsidiary of the larger Volkswagen Group. The S3 has been in production since 1999 and is currently in production in its third generation. The S3 is a well built, good looking car which is affordable. They have really good engines but they are not the best rides at high speeds. The handling is great on these cars and they have a great interior design with comfortable seats and a decent amount of room inside. The boot area lacks a bit of space, but the S3 is a great option for a sporty small family car. Does this sound like your experience of the Audi S3?

Audi S3 History

The first generation (1999-2003) was introduced as a sports version of the A3 and was available as a 3-door hatchback with a 1.8L engine. It had a facelift in 2000 with the main changes taking place on the exterior design.

The second generation (2006-12) was released in 2006 after a 3 year absence. It was available with a 2.0L engine and a choice of 3 or 5 doors. This version was also available with the S-tronic semi-automatic gearbox.

The third generation (2012-present) is the current version on the market, and also has the 2.0L engine which the previous version had.

Fuel Economy

The Audi S3 has been available with either a 1.8 or 2.0L petrol engine, depending on which generation. The current version of the 2.0L engine offers around 40mpg which is pretty good. Which engine do you have and how does it perform economically? The age, engine size and fuel type must be considered when thinking fuel economy.

The Audi S3 has been available with the following gearboxes: 6 speed manual, 5 speed automatic and 6 or 7 speed S-tronic semi-automatic gearboxes.
