BMW 320i Overview
The BMW 320i is classed as a compact executive car and is produced by the German automobile company BMW. The 320i is part of the BMW 3-series range and has been in production since 1975. The 320 numbering system works by the first number representing the series, i.e. 3 for 3-series and the last two numbers being the engine size, e.g. 20 = 2.0L. The BMW 320i is a top of the range car in its class and they are extremely well built, well refined and look really good. They drive and handle really well and you would be hard pressed to find a better compact executive car on the market. Does this sound like your experience of the 320i?
BMW 320i History
The first generation (1975-83) 3-series was introduced to attract buyers looking for both prestige and economy. The 320 was one of the first three models available for the 3-series. The second generation (1982-91) was much more expensive than the previous version, almost doubling in price but this was due to improvements to the vehicle. A touring version was introduced in 1987 and the 320i was one of the first three engines available.
The third generation (1990-99) changed the look of the 3-series giving it a much more modern look. This version was extremely popular and successful. The fourth generation (1998-2006) offered a 2.2L engine for the 320i from 2000 and a compact version of this car was introduced in 2001.
The fifth generation (2005-12) again had a complete redesign from previous versions, modernising the car and also a total upheaval with the mechanics of the car. The sixth generation (2012-present) is the current version on the market and has some great technological features taken from the 5 and 7-series.
