BMW X5 Overview

The BMW X5 is classed as a mid-sized luxury SAV (Sports Activity Vehicle) which is produced by the German automobile manufacturing company BMW. This vehicle has been in production since 1999 to the present day. This was BMWs first vehicle in the SUV (Sports Utility Vehicle) class and they decided to name it an SAV instead to state its ability on-road as well as off-road. This vehicle is also known as a 4x4 in the UK. The X5 is designed on the same platform as the BMW 5-series cars. There are not many vehicles of this class that drive as well as this and are as economical. They are good performance vehicles and good both on and off road. Sound anything like your experience of the X5?

BMW X5 History

The first generation (1999-2006) X5 was first produced in 1999 and had a lot of influence from the Land Rover Range Rover. BMW owned Land Rover at the time and used the technology available to build their first ever SUV. These turned out to be well designed, high performance, economical luxury SUVs with that BMW touch.

The second generation (2006-present) was when BMW decided to name it an SAV due to its extraordinary on-road performance. This vehicle uses the new iDrive technology and has optional third row of seats to seat up to seven people. In 2011 this vehicle had a slight makeover and this is the current version on the market.
