Ford Escape Overview
The Ford Escape is classed as a compact crossover which has been produced by the automobile manufacturers Ford Motor Company. The first generation Escape was sold as the Ford Maverick in Europe and has been in production since 2000.
The third generation is sold as the Ford Kuga in Europe. This vehicle was developed in conjunction with Mazda. These vehicles are very stylish and high performance vehicles. They are very comfortable, good fun to drive and very versatile. Their off-road ability leaves a lot to be desired but they do perform well on-road. They are very spacious and worth considering if a compact crossover is what you are after.
Ford Escape History
The first generation (2000-07) was released in 2000 and was the smaller SUV, below the Ford Explorer. This vehicle scored highly in the safety tests in the US and was built on the Ford D2 platform. The first generation Escape was giving a makeover in 2005 with some new engines and some interior changes.
The second generation (2008-12) was built on the same platform but had a complete new external redesign. This was the first ford vehicle to include the new pull drift steering compensation to the power steering system. Again this vehicle scored highly in the safety tests.
The third generation (2013-present) model shares the same platform as the Ford Focus and is based on the European sold Ford Kuga. This version has many new design features including: MyFord touch. This is the current version on the market.
The Ford Escape has been available in the following engines: 1.6, 2.0, 2.3, 2.5 and 3.0L petrol engines. The smaller 1.6L engine is the most economical, and is part of the Ford ecoboost engine range. Which engine do you have and how does it perform economically?
