Nissan Altima Overview
The Nissan Altima is classed as a luxury large family car which is produced by the Japanese automobile manufacturing company Nissan. This vehicle has been in production since 1993 and is currently in its fifth generation. The Altima was a replacement for the Nissan Bluebird and is only available in North and South American markets. It was the second best selling car in this class in 2011. These cars are very luxurious and have a great interior design. They also handle really well, are great looking cars and are great to drive. The engines lack refinement but they do have a comfortable and spacious cabin. Does this sound like your experience of the Altima?
Nissan Altima History
The first generation (1993-97) was based on the Nissan Bluebird, which it replaced. Although it was built on the same U13 chassis, the Altima was designed by the Californian Nissan design team.
The second generation (1998-2001) was known as the L30 and the exterior design was not changed to much, but the interior had a real overhaul which made it more spacious. It had a facelift in 2000 which changed a lot of the exterior.
The third generation (2002-06) was built on the FFL platform and was known as the L31. This version was quite a big bigger, which moved it from the small family car class to the large family car. It was facelifted in 2005 to the interior and exterior.
The fourth generation (2007-12) was built on the Nissan D platform which is slightly smaller than the previous version. It had a facelift in 2010.
The fifth generation (2012-present) is the current version on the market and takes a lot of its design styling from the Nissan Maxima. This is slightly larger than its predecessor but is the lightest car of this class.
The Nissan Altima is available in 2.4, 2.5 and 3.5L petrol engines depending on which version. The current 2.5L version is the most economical, offering around 29mpg. Which engine do you have and how does it perform economically?
