Opel Astra Overview

The Opel Astra is classed as a small family car and is produced by the German car manufacturing company Opel. In the UK this car is known as the Vauxhall Astra and is produced by the British subsidiary of Opel, Vauxhall Motors. This car has been in production since 1991 and replaced the aging Opel Kadett. This vehicle is still in production to this day in its fourth generation. The latest version of the Astra is well refined and handles really well. It is a great ride with a good choice of available engines. The interior design has been improved as well as the exterior look and it remains one of the most popular small family cars in Europe. Opel Astra History

The first generation (1991-98) Astra replaced the aging Kadett in 1991 and was available as hatchback, saloon and estate. In 1995 this vehicle received an upgrade with the new Ecotec engines and some minor exterior changes.

The second generation (1998-2004) was available in the same versions with the inclusion of the Coupe and Cabrio in 2000. When the next model was introduced in 2004 this version was still produced as the Astra Classic in some European countries.

The third generation (2004-10) was built on the new Delta platform which increased the size of the vehicle slightly, compared with its predecessor. The fourth generation (2009-present) is built on the Delta II platform and is the current version in production. This version takes a lot of its design styling from the Opel Insignia.
