These cars are known for their good engines but also for having their share of common problems. We have a list of some of the most common problems associated with the Vauxhall Calibra and their solutions below.
Vauxhall Calibra problems and solutions
Oil leak on top of engine
If you have noticed that there is oil leaking out of the top of your engine, particularly the corners, you have a faulty rocker cover gasket. You will have to replace the rocker cover gasket which isn't as expensive as you might think.
Engine management warning light
If your engine management warning light has recently come on, and is staying on, it is usually one of two sensors that is at fault. On the Calibra this would usually either be the camshaft sensor or crankshaft sensor at fault. Run a diagnostic check to identify which is at fault, and once identified fit a replacement sensor.
Gear lever cover wearing
A very common problem on the Vauxhall Calibra is the gear lever cover wearing very quickly. This can lead to dirt getting into the gearbox, so should be replaced as soon as possible.
Water leaking into footwell
If you have noticed damp patches on the footwell of your car then it is more than likely a faulty heater matrix. Have this part looked at to identify exactly where the fault is, as you may be able to fix it without getting a new matrix. Otherwise you will need a new heater matrix.
When you are driving over bumpy roads or rough surfaces and hear a knocking noise coming from the suspension area, it is most likely a faulty front drop link. This will need to be replaced to resolve the issue.
Faulty door/boot seals
You will know if you have faulty door seals or boot seals if you see wet patches on the carpets. Depending on where the leak is, you will need to have new seals fitted.
Cam belt failure
The Can belt is know to fail on these cars and if not checked out, then it can be very costly. If the cam belt goes then you will have a very expensive repair of the engine. It's best to get it checked out and changed if needed.
