The Hyundai Motor Corp have announced that they had a drop in sales of 8.37% for March 2014 compared with figures from the same period last year.
These figures are for Hyundai Motor India where they sold 51,708 units compared with 56,437 from March 2013. These figures include vehicles exported from India, but if you were not to include the exports there would be an increase of sales over last year.
In the local Indian market there was 35,003 units sold last month, where as there was only 33,858 units sold in March 2013. This is about a 13.3% improvement of local sales over the previous year.
In regards to the exports from India, there was a 26% decrease in exports. Hyundai exported 16,705 vehicles last month but managed to export 22,579 vehicle in March 2013.
Rakesh Srivastava is the Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Hyundai Motor India. He was optimistic about the overall sales in India last month, saying: “Post the reduction of excise duty and with the strong performance in compact segment; Hyundai registered March sales of 35,003 units with a growth of 3.4% over corresponding month indicating a build up of positive momentum. The excise duty cut is a welcome step taken by government to revive sale.”
Elsewhere, Hyundai Motor America reported sales of 67,005 units in March 2014. This is down 1.9% over the same period last year but is up 37% over the previous month of February. Bob Pradzinski is the vice president of national sales for Hyundai Motor America and he expects sales to continue increasing into April as the weather improves. He says the poor weather in February affected sales.
