Infosys has been awarded a multi-year contract with Volvo Cars in where it will provide application development services for the Swedish automobile manufacturing company.
Infosys is India's second biggest software development company and this is the second large contract they have gained in the automotive world in recent months.
In October 2013 it was revealed that Infosys were to manage Toyota's European technology applications. This contract would mean Infosys were in charge of such areas as customer service, manufacturing, sales and after sales and supply chain.
The software giant was given a 4 year contract with Toyota Motor Europe (TME) and was partly a result of previous ventures between the two companies. Toyota and Infosys had worked together on several different projects and transformation delivery services in recent years.
This latest deal with Volvo, which has not been clarified publicly in terms of how long the deal is and how much it will be worth, is an extension of previous work between Volvo Cars and Infosys. Since 2010 both companies have been working together to rationalise and integrate Volvo's enterprise systems.
This is what Nitesh Bansal the vice-president of manufacturing at Infosys Europe had to say about the deal: “We will be a strategic supplier for Volvo Cars to deliver excellence and innovation to transform their IT landscape to a modern architecture. We have an industry heritage, deep automotive expertise, and established track record of delivering that leaves us well positioned to be a strategic supplier to Volvo Cars. This agreement also reflects our strategic focus on the Nordic market and strengthens our presence in Sweden.”
