LDV 400 Overview

The LDV 400 is a panel van which is part of the Leyland DAF 400 series. These vehicles are produced by the British van manufacturing company LDV Limited. The 400 series replaced the 300 series in 1989, and the 400 series later became known as the LDV Convoy from 1997 – 2006. These vehicles are solid and are cheap to buy and run compared with some competitors. They may not be as refined or have as many features as some rivals, but you get what you pay for when it comes to the LDV 400 series. Does this sound anything like your experience of this vehicle?

LDV 400 History

In 1989 Freight Rover became part of Leyland DAF and the Freight Rover 300 series was ended, and replaced with the LDV 400 series. With this change also came a change of engines, which meant the use of a Peugeot designed 2.5L diesel engine and also a new suspension system. There wasn’t that great a change in appearance, but it received a new grille design incorporating the Leyland DAF badge.

LDV Limited was formed in 1993 when Leyland DAF had to sell out. This new company changed the name of the LDV 400 to the LDV Convoy in 1997 and replaced the Peugeot engines with the 2.4L Ford designed duratorq engine. The Convoy was available in three size variations: 2.8, 3.1 and 3.5 tonne. This version was very popular as the minibus version and was also available in other forms. This van ceased production in 2006 as the platform was a bit dated, dating back to 1974.
