Mercedes has unveiled the specs and pricing of the new ML 63 AMG - the high performance version of its M-Class 4X4 range.

As you would expect with an AMG version, the new model sees a number of standard Mercedes car parts swapped for high-calibre replacements.

These include a 5.5-litre bi-turbo V8 engine delivering 525hp and 700Nm of torque with the standard AMG package, allowing the car to hit 0-62 mph in just 4.8 seconds.

All this power doesn't come cheap, however, with prices starting from £82,995 on the road.

For an extra six grand, customers can opt for the AMG Performance Package, which adds another 32hp and 60Nm of torque.

But despite its extra power, the new AMG ML is almost 40 per cent more economical and emits nearly 30 per cent less CO2 than the previous version.

Mercedes claims this is down to new features such as an improved seven-speed automatic transmission and a start/stop function that cuts the engine automatically when the car comes to a halt.
