The new 2014 Megane has been released and is a facelifted version of the third generation Megane. The Megane has been in production since 1995 and is one of the oldest Renaults still in production. You can read our full Megane review by clicking here.
As the small family car class is so competitive, Renault have had to make some changes to this vehicle in order to try and stay with the leading competitors of this class. It may not be as good a car as the VW Golf or Ford Focus but the 2014 version has seen some really good improvements on its predecessor.
Prices begin at £16,745 for the entry level 1.6L Expression+ and Renault have tried to get their prices down a bit on certain models, with up to £1,200 off all of their 1.6L diesel models and an £850 saving on the 1.5L diesel.
The new Megane has a new front end design but still has the now familiar 'weird' looking rear end associated with the Megane. The new front end design includes new headlights, front grille and a much larger Renault logo.
Inside the car, Renault have improved the boot space by sacrificing some rear passenger room. The boot is now capable of holding 372 litres which is larger than both the Golf and Astra but means that having adult passengers in the rear can be a bit cramped. I do not know which you would prefer, rear passenger space or boot space?
Renault have also kept with their promise of improving the quality of the interior design which now includes a soft touch dashboard and digital speedometer.
Overall we would have to say that this is an overall improvement over previous versions but is still way behind class leaders.
