New BMW car parts could soon be available for use with the latest addition to the manufacturer's 6 Series.
This week, BMW has unveiled the new Gran Coupe, the first four-door coupe to feature in the 6 Series.
Set to compete with rivals such as the Mercedes CLS and Audi A7, the car has a UK release date of June 2012 and a starting price of £61,380.
According to BMW, the "athletic elegance of the car's design makes it a particularly handsome addition to the range".
The BMW 6 Series engine
"Powerful engines and sophisticated chassis technology combine to produce an impressively dynamic driving experience," it added.
Three engines will be offered with the car. The first of these is the 313hp 640d, which will deliver acceleration of 0-60mph in 5.4 seconds and 50.4 miles to the gallon.
Two petrol engines will also be available; the 320hp 640i 3.0-litre and a 4.4-litre V8.
The second of these is capable of 0-60mph in just 4.6 seconds and 32.1mpg, reports msn Cars.
Style-wise, the new Gran Coupe has a "strikingly low-slung appearance", says BMW.
Design features include model-specific electroplated bars between the air intake and foglamps, twin round headlights with three-dimensional light rings and a “distinctive silhouette with flowing Coupe-style roof line”.
High-spec equipment will also be available as standard, including eight-speed sports automatic transmission, Auto Start-Stop function, 18-inch light-alloy wheels, xenon headlights with LED daytime running light rings and cruise control with braking function.
"The new BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe marks the beginning of a new chapter. It is BMW's first four-door coupe and combines uncompromising driving dynamics with exclusive elegance and breath-taking design," commented Andreas-Christoph Hofmann, head of BMW brand communications.
