Ford Cargo problems and solutions

Electrical problems

Problem: It is very common on 0811 models of these vehicles to have electrical problems. The window wipers not working right and dull headlights seem to be the main things. This problem is caused by a faulty circuit board which corrodes over time and the tags burn out.

Solution: To solve this issue, you will have to replace the printed circuit board which is located behind a panel at the passenger side footwell.

Not changing from Park to Drive

Problem: If you find that the automatic gearbox won't let you change from park to drive then it is most likely not as serious as you think. The most common issue is that the wiring has come loose on the rear brakes.

Solution: Check that the wiring is connected, if not, you will need to fit connection to solve the problem. If this doesn't work you will have to fit new connections and wiring.

Hazards and indicators not working

Problem: If you have a problem where the hazards and indicators are not working, it is most likely a loose connection behind the hazard switch. The indicators are connected to the hazard which also stops them from working when the hazard is malfunctioning.

Solution: To solve this problem you will most likely have to replace the connection and possibly even the wiring. You can try re-connecting the current wiring to fix the problem, but if this doesn’t work, you will have to replace as mentioned above.

Getting replacement parts

Problem: Getting replacement parts for the Cargo is one of the major issues with this vehicle, as Ford has discontinued a lot of spare parts for the Cargo.

Solution: Here at Breakeryard we can help you find those parts through our comprehensive network of UK Breakers. You can visit our Cargo parts page to begin your search.

Stuttering when accelerating

Problem: If you have noticed that your Cargo is really stuttering when accelerating, and then it is most likely caused by a damaged or blocked catalytic converter.

Solution: If it is blocked you will only have to unblock it and this should solve the problem. If it damaged you will need a new catalytic converter.

Spark plugs blowing out

Problem: This is a common problem on a lot of titron engines on these vehicles as the aluminium threads are known to fail, leading to the spark plugs blowing out.

Solution: You can either try fitting new plugs which has the potential danger of them blowing out at some point in the future. The very expensive recommended resolution is to fit a new cylinder head which can be extremely expensive.
