There has been a recent report by a Japanese newspaper stating that the Lancer Evolution X is set to cease production by the end of 2014.

The Japanese newspaper making this claim is the Automotive News Daily and it is reckoned that this is due to poor demand/sales for the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X.

The Lancer Evolution has been in production since 1992 and it has even been claimed that their will be no production of a Lancer Evolution XI, which could mean the end of this sports model, which is based on the Lancer small family car.

The Evolution X is the tenth generation of the Evolution and has been in production since 2007.

At the 2013 Tokyo Motor Show Ryogu Nakao the Managing Director at Mitsubishi Motors confirmed that the Evolution X would be “the last of its kind”. Mitsubishi will aim to make the next version of this vehicle a smaller plug in hybrid which is still in the very early stages of thought and will only reach production if their appears to be a demand for this type of vehicle.

A special edition version of the Evolution X has recently been released in the UK to celebrate 40 years of Mitsubishi in the UK. This is a 2.0L 4-cylinder turbocharged engine which offers an incredible 440bhp.
