Nissan 240SX Overview

The Nissan 240SX is classed as a sports compact car which was produced by the Japanese automobile manufacturing company Nissan. This vehicle was in production from 1989 to 1998 and was built on the Nissan S platform. This vehicle was a replacement for the Nissan 200SX and was built for the North American market. The 240SX was marketed in two different generations, S13 (1989-94) and S14 (1994-98). The 240SX was a rear wheel drive entry level sports car, which was great at handling and had great performance. This car was introduced at a time where rivals in this class were front wheel drive and this gave something different. It also had good suspension, was well equipped but was not very well refined, being very noisy. Does this sound like your experience of the 240SX?

Nissan 240SX History

The first generation (1989-94) was available in two versions: coupé and fastback. The 240SX was a popular drift car due to its length, low costs and powerful engine. It had a makeover in 1991 which slightly altered the exterior and gave it a new bumper design.

The second generation (1994-98) was a new design which was only available as a coupé One of the most notable differences was the removal of pop-up headlights in favour of fixed lights. It had some minor changes made in 1997 which was mainly exterior changes. The 240SX was discontinued in 1998.

Model Types

Fuel Economy

The Nissan 240SX had a 2.4L petrol engine which was not great on fuel. I suppose for a sports car it wasn't too bad, averaging around 22mpg, as you don't expect to get to great mileage on any type of sports car. How did you find the engine on your 240SX in terms of fuel economy? The age, fuel type and engine size are determining factors when considering fuel economy.
