Vauxhall Calibra Overview

The Vauxhall Calibra is classed as a sports car and was produced by the British car company Vauxhall Motors. Vauxhall is the British subsidiary of the German company Opel. This vehicle is marketed as the Opel Calibra in Europe, Vauxhall Calibra in the UK, Chevrolet Calibra in South America and Holden Calibra in Australia and New Zealand. This car was based on the design of the Vauxhall Vectra, but with a sportier feel, to compete with the Japanese sports cars of this era. It was in production from 1989-97. These cars are spacious with a good choice of available engines. How did you find your Calibra?

Vauxhall Calibra History

The Vauxhall Calibra was first produced in 1989, based on the same platform as the Vauxhall Vectra. It was a front-wheel drive sports coupe and was seen to be one of the most stylish cars produced by Vauxhall ever. It is still the most aerodynamic Vauxhall ever, and remained the most aerodynamic car for 10 years until the introduction of the Honda Insight.

This car was very popular across Europe and well outsold its main rival the Ford Probe which was no where near as popular outside of the US. The Calibra ceased production in 1997 and left a gap in this class for Vauxhall/Opel until the Astra Coupe was released in 2000.
