Volkswagen LT28 Overview

The Volkswagen LT28 was classed as a light commercial vehicle which was produced by the German automobile manufacturing company Volkswagen. This vehicle was in production from 1975 to 2006 and was part of the VW LT series. This was one of the first generation LT vehicles produced. A common thing for these vehicles was to convert them into motor homes. They were introduced in an era when these type of vans were pretty popular. The 28 in the name stands for 2.8 tonne, which is the approximate weight of the vehicle. These vans were considered spacious, comfortable and well built. They were also seen as reliable and one of the best of these vehicles of this time. Does this sound like your experience of the LT28?

Volkswagen LT28 History

The Volkswagen LT28 was first released in 1975 as Volkswagen had decided that they needed a range of large transporter vehicles from 2.8 tonne up to 3.5 tonne. The LT series was released, replacing the now ageing Type 2. The new LT was a cab over engine design, changing from the rear mounted engine. The vehicle had a facelift in 1986, with the main changes being the rectangular headlights becoming round.

The second generation LT series gave the vehicle a completely new look and was a joint venture with Mercedes-Benz, whose version was the Mercedes Sprinter. This lasted until 2006 when the Volkswagen Crafter replaced the LT-series.
