Citroen Xantia Overview
The Citroen Xantia is a large family car produced by the French automobile manufacturers Citroen, which is part of the larger PSA Peugeot Citroen Group. This car was produced from 1993-2001 and they sold over 1.2 million of these cars in its lifetime. This car is known as very comfortable, has great handling and suspension but is known for its reliability and safety issues. This car is maybe not as refined as some Citroens of the past and can be expensive to maintain.
Citroen Xantia History
The Citroen Xantia was first designed as a replacement for the Citroen BX in 1993 and kept many of the popular design features of its predecessor. This car was criticised a bit for not keeping with some of the Citroens traditional design features except the now famous Citroen hydro-pneumatic suspension system. The Xantia was originally only available as a hatchback but in 1995 the estate version was introduced.
This car had a makeover in 1998 which resulted in some of the previously criticised features of the Xantia being addressed and returning to the more traditional Citroen design. The Xantia was discontinued in 2001 where it was replaced with the Citroen C5.
The different engines available for the Citroen Xantia where as follows: 1.6, 1.8, 2.0 and 3.0 petrol, and 1.9, 2.0 and 2.1 diesel engines. The most economical of the available engines is the 2.0 HDi diesel version which offers up to 49 mpg. Remember to consider the age, fuel type and engine size when thinking about fuel economy.
The Xantia was available in 4-speed automatic and 5-speed manual gearboxes. If you need gearbox parts for your Xantia then have a look at our Citroen gearbox section to find the exact part you need.
