Nissan 280C Overview

The Nissan 280C is classed as an executive car which was produced by the Japanese automobile manufacturing company Nissan. The 280c were part of the Nissan Cedric range, and were one of a number of different vehicles produced under this name. They were in production from 1976 to 1983. These vehicles were large executive cars which had a good quality interior design with a very spacious and comfortable cabin. In their time these were very well built cars but handling was poor. Does this sound anything like your experience of this vehicle?

Nissan 280C History

The first generation (1976-79) of the 280C was introduced in 1976, but it wasn't until 1978 that it was officially known as the 280C. From 1976 it was called the Nissan Cedric 280C, but the Cedric part was dropped in 1978. The engine on this vehicle was modified from its predecessor to comply with new emissions regulations.

The second generation (1979-83) was available in both petrol and diesel engines. This version had some new styling, which was co-designed with the Italian design company Pininfarina. This car won the Japanese car of the year in 1979. Production of this vehicle ceased in 1983 and the Nissan Laurel took over for the European market.

Fuel Economy

The Nissan 280C had either 2.8L petrol or 2.8L diesel engines. The 1st version was only available in petrol, where the 2nd version was available with both petrol and diesel engines. The diesel version was the most economical, but these large engines were pretty greedy on fuel. Which engine did you have and how did it perform economically? Always take into consideration the age, fuel type and engine size when thinking about fuel economy.

Transmission

The Nissan 280C was available with the following gearboxes: 3 or 4 speed automatic and 4 or 5 speed manual gearboxes. Which gearbox did you have and how did you rate its performance? If you are needing gearbox parts for your 280C then why not have a look at our Nissan gearbox section today.
