BMW 528i Overview

The BMW 528i is classed as a mid-sized family car and is part of the BMW 5-series range. These cars are built by the German automobile manufacturing company BMW. The only time the 528i has not been introduction was in the third generation between 1988 and 1996. The 5-series range was first introduced in 1972 and is still in production today in their sixth generation. These cars are very luxurious, extremely well built and are very refined cars. Inside they are very spacious and comfortable. They handle very well and are great to drive. Top of the class in my opinion. Does this sound like your experience of the BMW 528i?

BMW 528i History

The first generation (1972-81) of the BMW 5-series was available in a few different engines, with the 2.8L 528i being one of the larger engines. The styling of this car was taken from the previous BMW new-series. The second generation (1982-88) was an evolution of the previous version with some minor changes made to the exterior. The 2.8L engine moved from 177hp to 184 in 1978 and beyond. There was no 528i in the third generation (1988-96).

The fourth generation (1995-2003) reintroduced the 528i to its line-up and was a very popular version. It was the top of the class throughout its lifetime. It had a sleek design and was very well designed.

The fifth generation (2003-10) was seen as a very controversial design, with critics saying it has moved away from the traditional BMW styling.

The sixth generation (2010-present) is built on a new platform, the F01 7-series and returns to more familiar BMW styling. This is the current version on the market.
