Ford Explorer 4x4 History

The first generation (1991-94) was a replacement for the Ford Bronco II. The second generation (1995-2001) had a lot of changes from the previous version and shared a lot of features with the ford Ranger. These changes affected the interior, exterior and the suspension system. It was in this generation that the Explorer was introduced to the UK. It was introduced in 1997 and by the end of this generation was discontinued and not sold on the British market. The third generation (2002-05) had nothing in common with the Ford Ranger anymore. It now had a lot of similarities to the larger Ford Expedition. This version was the first version to have a third row of seats and carry up to seven people. The fourth generation (2006-10) was slightly larger than the previous version and was built on a new frame. The fifth generation (2011-present) is the current version on the market. This version has changed class due to the change in size. It is now a crossover SUV and has given the Explorer an all new look and feel.
