Mercedes 300D Overview

The Mercedes 300D is classed as a mid-sized executive car and is produced by the German automobile manufacturing company Mercedes-Benz. This vehicle was in production from 1975 to 1995 over two different versions: The W123 (1977-85) and the W124 (1985-96). This vehicle is part of the Mercedes E-class range and were very popular cars in their time. These vehicles were known for their lack of power, but this is due to the early diesel engines. This car was very luxurious, spacious and comfortable; having the now famous Mercedes safety features and build quality. They are reliable cars which hold their value well. Mercedes 300D History

The W123 (1977-85) was the first version to use the 300D name for the 3.0L diesel engine. The W123 was slightly larger than the previous W115 Mercedes and had a new styling. There was saloon, long wheel base and estate versions of this car. Previously the 3.0L diesel version was known as the 240D. This car was extremely popular and had a waiting list of up to 12 months at one point.

The W124 (1985-96) had a much more modern styling than the previous version and was renowned for its high Mercedes build quality. This car was very aerodynamic and had some innovative design features for its time which really reduced fuel consumption. In 1993 the E-class cars started to use the E300 name instead of 300D, which meant the 300D name was last used that year.
