Citroen AX Overview

The Citroen AX is classed as a supermini car and was produced by the French automobile manufacturing company Citroen, which is part of the PSA Peugeot Citroen Group. These cars were produced from 1986 – 1998. These cars were great economically, good fun to drive and are very cheap to buy and run. The safety features are not that good and doesn’t fair well in a crash. Overall these are good options if you are after a cheap little run around. Does this sound like your experience of the Citroen AX?

Citroen AX History

This car was first produced in 1986 as a replacement for the Citroen Axel and Citroen Visa. It was originally available as a 3-door hatchback with 1.0, 1.1 and 1.4L engines, abut a 5-door version came soon afterwards and the 1.4 diesel was replaced with a 1.5 diesel version. This car was one of the most economical of its time due to its high quality aerodynamics and light weight.

In 1991 this vehicle had a makeover which mainly affected the rear end and interior. A lot of new models were introduced and the GTi version became available. In 1995 these models were trimmed down a bit and the AX was eventually phased out in 1998 to be replaced with the Citroen Saxo which was first introduced in 1996.
