Isuzu Trooper Overview
The Isuzu Trooper is a medium sized SUV (Sports Utility Vehicle) produced by the Japanese auto-mobile manufacturer Isuzu. This was sold worldwide under many different names, such as: Chevrolet Trooper, Honda Horizon and Holden Montgomery depending on the country it was marketed for. This is one of the top of the range 4x4s and is great off-road, well built and good value for money. Its downfall is that its not very good on road, has some design flaws such as the split rear door that doesn’t open fully.
Isuzu Trooper History
The first generation (1981-91) trooper was a bit underpowered and the initial design needed some improvements. In 1986 the engines had some considerable work done to them to improve the overall performance of these vehicles. There were some additional engine sizes made available as well, such as the V6. The early 4x4 system could be turned on and off, giving the option of two or four wheel drive.
The second generation (1991-2005) had some major changes, as it was made larger, more powerful and luxurious to keep up with the changing trends of the SUV market. In 2002 the Trooper was no longer exported from Japan, and it lasted for about 2-3 more years in its home nation before ceasing production altogether.

Fuel Economy
The original first generation
engines were available in 2.0, 2.3 and 2.6 in petrol and 2.2 and 2.8 in diesel. With the next generation and need for more power the engines increased to: 3.2 and 3.5 petrol and 3.0 and 3.1 diesel. If you want economy on this vehicle then you best go for the diesel engines as these vehicles tend to consume large amounts of fuel.
