Jeep Grand Cherokee Overview

The Jeep Grand Cherokee is classed as a mid-sized SUV (Sports Utility Vehicle) and is produced by the American automobile manufacturers Jeep which is a subdivision of The Chrysler Group. The Jeep Grand Cherokee is the more upmarket and larger version of the standard Cherokee. These vehicles have been in production since 1993 and have been designed across four different generations. These are excellent off-road vehicles and are well equipped. For the size of the vehicle you would expect more space and thought it would be a better ride.

Jeep Grand Cherokee History

The first Jeep Grand Cherokee ZJ version (1993-98) was designed as a replacement for the smaller Cherokee and was available in three versions: Base, Laredo and Limited. The Base version was the cheapest; Laredo was mid range and Limited was top of the range.

The WJ (1999-2004) had a new design and only used 127 parts from the previous version. This model came with the new ‘Quadra-Drive’ automatic four wheel drive option. The new design produced better fuel economy and better on-road performance.

The WK (2005-10) was the first version to include the new Quadra-Drive II four wheel drive system. This vehicle again improved the on-road performance to try and make it a lore popular choice in its class. This version had a makeover in 2008, mainly affecting the headlights design.

The WK2 (2010 - ) is the current version in production and has a new stylish design while maintaining the Jeep look. This version won many awards for several factors including: best in class and safety.
