Nissan Patrol Overview
The Nissan Patrol is classed as a full sized 4x4 SUV (Sports Utility Vehicle) and is produced by the Japanese manufacturing company Nissan. The Patrol has been around the early 50’s and was originally used as a military vehicle, which it still is in some countries in the Middle East and Asia. This vehicle has been built across several generations and has evolved greatly over time. The Patrol is a great off road vehicle which doesn’t perform that well on road. They are greedy on fuel and not as refined as some competitors in this class but are very spacious and comfortable vehicles. Does this sound anything like your experience of the Nissan Patrol?
Nissan Patrol History
The first generation (1951-60) was used as a military vehicle and service vehicle. The second generation (1959-80) was available in short; mid and long wheel base form. The third generation (1980-2003) gave this vehicle a more modern and commercial look as they started to focus on making this both on and off road vehicle.
The fourth generation (1987-97) had a totally different mechanical makeup than any of the previous versions and was re-badged as the Ford Maverick in Australia. The fifth generation (1997-present) had a large engine range available and also had a new body shape. This version is still available despite the release of the latest Patrol. The sixth generation (2010-present) is the current version in production.
Long Way Down
The Nissan Patrol has had many different engine sizes available across its life time. The petrol engines have been 2.8, 3.0, 3.7, 4.0, 4.2, 4.5, 4.8 and 5.6.
