Porsche 944 Overview

The Porsche 944 is classed as a sports coupe and is produced by the German sports car manufacturers Porsche. This car was in production from 1982 to 1991 and was available as a coupe or convertible. The 944 was built on the same platform as the Porsche 924 and was eventually succeeded by the 968 in 1991. These cars were great looking sports cars for their time and really high performance as well. As they were very stylish cars, and exclusive, they were very sought after. They are very well built and are extremely reliable, but the parts can be very expensive to replace. Does this sound anything like your experience of the Porsche 944?

Porsche 944 History

Originally the Porsche 924 was built as a joint venture between Porsche and Volkswagen and would eventually become the basis from which the Porsche 944 would be designed. The 944 was introduced in 1982 and was faster, better equipped, more refined and an overall better drive than the 924. Due to its even weight distribution with the rear transaxle balancing out the front mounted engine, this gave the car great handling. There were upgrades to the car in 1985, 87 and 89, with the 2.5L engine being replaced with the 2.7L in 1989. That same year the 3.0L version was introduced for the S2 model. The 944 was replaced with the 968 in 1992.
