Volkswagen Scirocco Overview

The Volkswagen Scirocco is classed as a sports compact coupé which is produced by the German automobile manufacturing company Volkswagen. This vehicle is in its second stint (2008-present) and was first available from 1974 to 1992. The VW Corrado replaced the first Scirocco. The Scirocco name is taken from Sirocco, which is an Italian wind, as VW were naming all cars after winds at this time. The current Scirocco has a very stylish design, great handling and amazing safety features. They are very well equipped, well built and reliable. They are also very reasonably priced with very few draw backs. Does this sound anything like your experience of this vehicle?


The first generation (1974-82) was built on the same platform as the Golf and Jetta. Although it was built on the same platform it was designed a much sportier car with sportier exterior and mechanical parts. The second generation (1982-92) Mark II was built on the same platform as the previous version but with some minor alterations. The Scirocco ceased production in 1992 and the VW Corrado took over for several years.

The third generation (2008-present) saw the reintroduction of the Scirocco after a 16 year absence. It has a very stylish new look and is based on the Golf Mark V PQ35 platform. On the year of its introduction it won car of the year in top Gear magazine and this vehicle got 5 starts in the Euro safety tests. This is the current version on the market.

The current version of the Volkswagen Scirocco is available in 1.4 or 2.0L petrol and 2.0L diesel engines. The 2.0L diesel is the most economical engine, offering up to 62mpg. Which engine do you have and how does it perform economically?
