Volvo 440 Overview

The Volvo 440 is classed as a small family car which was produced by the Swedish automobile manufacturing company Volvo Cars. This car was in production from 1987 to 1997 and replaced the Volvo 340, and was replaced by the V40 in 1997. The 440 is a 5-door hatchback with front wheel drive which are very spacious and comfortable cars. They have the now famous Volvo safety features and are well built and very reliable. The diesel engines offer good fuel economy and the only downfall is that parts can expensive to replace, but not here at Breakeryard! Does this sound like your experience of this car?

Volvo 440 History

The Volvo 440 was introduced in 1987 as a replacement for the 340 and was marketed with the Volvo safety features in mind. This car built in Holland, not in Sweden and initially used the 1.7L Renault designed engine. In 1991 the 1.7L was replaced with the 1.6 and 1.8L versions, with the 2.0L being introduced in 1992. The initial version was criticised for its appearance and it eventually received a makeover in 1992 making it curvier and more appealing. The 1.9 diesel engine was introduced in 1994 but by then the sales of this car were seriously decreasing. The 440 was discontinued at the end of 1996, to be replaced with the Volvo V40.
