Volvo V40 Overview

The Volvo V40 has recently been remodelled in 2012 as a small family car produced by the Swedish car manufacturing company Volvo. For the old compact executive version, the S40 was the saloon version and the V40 referred to the estate version. The V40 estate was sold from 1995 – 2012 and created a bit of a shock when the new V40 was revealed at the 2012 Geneva motor show as a small hatchback car. The new V40 is a fresh, elegant design, which is great to design and has plenty space in the rear. It is a costly buy, but is a high quality car.

Volvo V40 History

The first generation (1995-2004) of the V40 executive estate was a very popular car that was once named as the most beautiful estate car in the world at an Italian award ceremony. This car originally replaced the estate version of the 400 series and was built on the Mitsubishi Carisma design platform. The engines were great in these vehicles and were seen as very reliable. This car received a makeover in 2000 which improved on many of the technical areas and some minor exterior changes to the first version.

In 2004 the second generation S40 was designed and the V40 was changed to the V50, which was produced until 2012.

The new small family car of the V40 which was introduced in 2012 is a classy looking well built car that gives Volvo a 5-door hatchback which is set to compete with the likes of the BMW 1-series, Audi A3 and Mercedes A-class. As Volvos are known for their safety, this is the first car to introduce an external pedestrian airbag that deploys between the windscreen and bonnet in the emergency of running someone over.
