BMW 3 series Overview
The BMW 3 series is one of the longest running series of modern automobiles. This style of BMW vehicle is a compact executive car and is made by the German manufacturer BMW. It is extremely reliable, a good drive with excellent handling and a very spacious and luxurious interior. The BMW 3 series is the most popular in the BMW range and you will find it hard to get a better vehicle in this class. The 3-series has won numerous worldwide awards for its design, performance and economy.
BMW 3 series History
The first generation E21 (1975-83) was produced to replace the BMW new class.and brought in a new design concept with it. The interior of the car was to become a part of the design philosophy of BMW. The three available models were 316, 318 and 320 with their 1.6, 1.8 and 2.0 engines respectively.
The second generation E30 (1982-91) was similar in design to the previous model but came in both saloon and convertible. This was also available in 4-door and a 6 cylinder engine was an option. The 325 was brought into production at this stage.
The third generation E36 (1990-99) and was very successful worldwide. Its body design was modernised which gave it a fresh and sportier look. A coupe version and later a compact version were brought into production through this generation.
The fourth generation E46 (1998-2006) replaced the saloon version of the E36 1st and then the other versions. The M3 took a design overhaul in this version with the interior and exterior having a real makeover. The E46 took a makeover in 2001 with new body parts such as the bumper and headlights. This version of the 3-series was seen as the best performer in its class.
The fifth generation E90 (2006-12) was totally different from the previous E46 with new engine, transmission, suspension and interior. This was very popular in the UK, selling more of this version than any previous version.
The sixth generation F30 (2012 - present) saloon version had a change of body style, where as the other models stayed the same as the E90.

In its class the BMW 3-series is thought of as one of the most economical of all its competitors. The engine sizes vary from 1.6L to 3.5L and are available in petrol and diesel. The diesel engines are obviously more economical than the petrol and the smaller sized engines than the larger ones.

The BMW 3 series is also classed as a compact executive car and is produced by the German automobile manufacturer BMW. The 3 series range has been in production since 1975 up until the present day. The 3 series comes in many different versions including coupé, convertible, estate and saloon. There are a wide range of different engines available. These cars are very good performance vehicles and are very comfortable with lots of room inside. They are very luxurious cars which are great to drive, well equipped with great security and safety features. They hold their value well and you would be hard pressed to find a better compact executive car on the market.
BMW 3 series History
The first generation (1975-83) was originally built to attract buyers who were after both economy and prestige.
The second generation (1982-91) was more expensive than the previous version but had a much better build quality and was better equipped.
The third generation (1990-99) was extremely successful and was to change the appearance of the 3-series forever, giving it a more stylish and modern look.
The fourth generation (1998-2006) introduced the compact version of this car which was replaced with the 1 series in 2004. Again this version was extremely successful.
The fifth generation (2005-12) was completely re-engineered compared with its predecessor.
The sixth generation (2012-present) is the current version on the market.

The BMW 3 Series has had many different engines available across its lifetime. The current engines available are: 1.6, 1.8, 2.0, 2.8 and 3.5L petrol engines and 1.6, 1.8, 2.0 and 3.0L diesel engines. The most economical of the available engines is the 2.0L efficient dynamics diesel version which offers up to 68mpg. In general the engines for the 3 series are very good economically.
