About Indicator Wiper Stalk

The Mondeo Ford indicator wiper stalk is attached to the steering column via a multi-connecting plug, and is operated by the driver using a lever. When the lever is pushed, the wipers that are located on the indicators start moving in an arcing motion to clean dirt from the vehicle’s indicators with the aid of washing fluid from the washer system. The indicators wipers are powered by a motor consisting of a series of 4 bar linkages.

Problems with the Mondeo Ford indicator wiper stalk can be caused through general wear and tear through consistent use. Many modern vehicles will display an error message or give warning if there is an issue with any element of the wiper system and it may be possible to diagnose the cause of stalk failure by using a circuit tester.

Other signs of Mondeo Ford indicator wiper stalk failure could be noticed by a ‘loose’ lever when attempting to operate the indicator wipers, which can be caused by a broken stalk or signs of burn out on the electronic components. A failed Mondeo Ford indicator wipe stalk may alternatively be too stiff to move easily which can cause the indicator wipers to stop functioning.

Ford Mondeo trivia

  • The Mark III Mondeo, launched in 2000, quickly gained a name as one of the best cars in the UK. It won the WhatCar? award and Top Gear Car of the Year, and was praised for its safety features, the high-quality interiors, and its exceptional handling.
  • Former F1 driver and F1 champion Nigel Mansell had a famous crash in a Mondeo while racing at Donnington.
  • Famed in Motorsport, the Mondeo has also emerged victorious at the FIA World Touring Car Cup (twice) in the 90s. It is also a regular sight in UK banger races and the Argentina Top Race series.
  • We know it as the Mondeo, but in other countries, the car is called the Contour, the Fusion, or the Mercury Mystique. Incidentally, the word Mondeo comes from the Latin word for World!
  • Although the Mk1 and MKII Mondeos were regular sights in the British Touring Car Championship, it wasn’t until their final year of competing in 2000 that they won. The 2000 team, led by the legendary Alain Menu, owned the competition for the whole season, and not only came first in the competition but second and third as well.
