About Bumper Brackets
Vehicles driven by combustion engines are equipped with a 12 volt Battery. The battery is commonly a lead-acid SLI type. It is box shaped and typically measures 25 cm x 20 cm x 18 cm in size and weighs around 16 kg. The 145 Alfa Romeo box is constructed of heavy plastic. This battery provides the electrical power to run the systems on the vehicle when the engine is not running and provides the power required to start the engine.
The battery is usually housed in the engine compartment under the bonnet. On some car makes and models it is housed under the rear passenger seats or in the boot.
Wherever the 145 Alfa Romeo battery is housed it must be securely fixed. In the designated space there will be a specific tray/base plate for the battery to sit in. There are various types of clamps and brackets to hold the battery securely in place. Some are long ‘J’ bolts which are hooked at one end and threaded at the other. The hooked ends connect to the base frame and the threaded end slots through angled top brackets which are tightened to the top edges of the battery with nuts, this clamps the battery down on the base plate, holding the battery in a firm position. Some vehicle, makes and models employ a series of flat brackets that clamp the battery to the base plate using the bottom lip at the base of the battery.
Problems with the 145 Alfa Romeo brackets and clamps, requiring them to be replaced, are usually due to corrosion issues.
Alfa Romeo trivia
- The Alfa Romeo logo has some really weird imagery. There are dashes of the Milanese coat of arms, and a terrifying picture of a snake eating a man. That image comes from the Visconti family crest, who used to rule Milan.
- Due to tax shenanigans, the very first Alfa-branded car was named the 24HP, even though it came with a 25 horsepower 4.1-litre engine. It was quick and could do a satisfying 62mph, despite having wooden spoke wheels.
- The history of Alfa Romeo has more than a touch of Ferrari in it. Enzo Ferrari himself was the man who ran the racing team of Alfa Romeo, and he did so for around a decade. That world-famous prancing pony logo was even seen on more than a few Alfa Romeo sports cars.
- It is rumoured that the Alfa Romeo was one of Henry Ford’s favourite car designs. The story goes that he would always take off his hat as a sign of respect when he saw one on the roads.
- All car companies have a slogan, but Alfa Romeo never seemed happy with theirs. They have had several, with everything from ‘The family car that wins races’ to ‘Mediocrity is a sin’. In 2020, they’re sticking with ‘Beauty is not enough. Power for your control.’
