About Steering Rack

One of the most popular steering systems in modern motor vehicles is the rack and pinion system. The Logan MCV Daciasteering rack forms one part of the mechanics of this system. One of the reasons for the system’s popularity is undoubtedly its simplicity. In a typical non-powered steering system a set of rack and pinion gears is enclosed in a metal tube. Each end of the rack protrudes from the ends of the tube. Each end of the Logan MCV Daciasteering rack is connected to a rod, known as a tie rod. The pinion is connected to the steering shaft and when the steering wheel is turned it causes the pinion gear to spin, which moves the Logan MCV Daciasteering rack transversely. The tie rods on either side of the rack connect to spindles on the car wheels. The transverse movement of the rack thereby causes the wheels to turn right and left according to the direction in which the vehicle is being steered.

In a power steering system the design of the Logan MCV Daciasteering rack has one or two variations. A section of the rack is connected to a cylinder with a piston in the centre, which has a fluid port on either side. Hydraulic fluid is provided to either side of the piston, which causes the Logan MCV Daciasteering rack to move, producing the power assisted steering.

Dacia trivia

  • In the 1970s, there were two Dacia variants, the 1300 and 1300L. However, in 1974, the 1301 was launched, but it was reserved for officials in the Communist Party. One theory at the time claimed that there were two versions of the 1301. One for Romanians and one for export, to the point where locals would cross the border to buy a car!
  • The Dacia 1100S model was one of the fastest standard cars available at the time of its production and was used by police forces across Europe as well as in motor racing.
  • The Dacia 1410 was an attempt to break into the minivan market, but it kept not quite making it to production. After adding front headlights from a Nissan Primera, the 1410 proved too odd for motorists, and the production run only lasted for two years before it was cancelled in 2006.
  • In 2019, Dacia was named Manufacturer of the year in the Top Gear Awards, surprising everyone. Top Gear called Dacia the "torch-bearer for anti-fashion cars. They're cheap and they work and we love them."
  • Currently, Dacia has only about 2% of the UK car market, but the company is still one of the biggest producers of cars in the whole of Europe. In terms of plant size, the Mioveni factory is the fifth biggest car factory in Europe.
