The strut mount is essential to the suspension system as it serves as a mounting point for your strut assemblies. The vehicle can have either two or four strut mounts depending on the suspension system in the vehicle.
The strut assemblies are situated at the front of the vehicle and are attached to the front wheels of the vehicle. They consist of a shock absorber with a piston and cylinder that contains a liquid or gas. When driving over a bump in the road, the piston moves up and down against the gas or fluid and cushioning from the bump. A spring coil also forms part of the strut mount and its aim is to keep your engine from experiencing vibrations during driving and provide you with a smooth ride.
Damage to the strut mount is through general wear and tear and it is worth knowing that if it has an issue it is recommended to also change the strut assembly attached.
Damage to a strut assembly can include excessive body roll, excessive or uneven tyre wear, tyre lift and vibrations whilst driving. Repairs should be treated as urgent.
