Peugeot 508 Common Problems and Solutions
Slow to Brake
Problem:
It is taking a lot longer to come to a complete stop when you apply the brakes.
Solution:
This is a simple matter of the brake pads wearing out. It might feel as if your brake pads need replacing too often on the 508, but it's a heavier car than you think, and the brake pads will wear out very often. Order new brake pads from our store and replace the worn ones, remembering to check the brake discs for damage at the same time.

Problems Overtaking
Problem:
Rapid acceleration has become non-existent, making it impossible to overtake other vehicles.
Solution:
This could be a problem with your fuel pipes, which were the subject of a recall of some 508s. If your fuel pipes are looking fine, then the issue is being caused by faulty engine valves. You can order replacements from BreakerYard and easily replace them yourself.

Water In Boot
Problem:
There are deep puddles of water in the boot.
Solution:
This is very common for the 508. Start by removing the lower lining mats and the wheel cover. Remove the lining on both rear sides, which will be held in place by two retaining clips. Next, pour some water down the rear window. In most cases, you'll find that the leak is via the black boot stopper, which you should remove, clean, and then reseal into place with glue.

Heater problem
Problem:
If you have noticed that there has been an obvious breeze of cold air, down towards the drivers foot well area, this problem is caused by a leak in the heating system.
Solution:
This problem can be fixed by taking the car to a dealer, and having them repair the leak in the heating system.

Automatic handbrake problem
Problem:
There have been issues with the automatic electric handbrake not working properly. If you have found that the automatic handbrake is not working, particularly in cold weather, you need to have a software update, in order to fix the problem.
Solution:
This issue was subject to a recall, and Peugeot will fix this free of charge, as it is a manufacturing fault. This problem can be resolved, by Peugeot giving the ECU a software update.

Window wiper problem
Problem:
It has been reported that there have been problems, associated with the window wipers hitting the bodywork, particularly on the drivers side. This could either be caused by a software issue, or the wiper arm may need adjusting.
Solution:
You should take the car to your Peugeot dealer, as the car should still be under warranty. They should, in fact be fixed without any cost to you. They will either make the adjustment to the wiper arm, or give you the software upgrade.

Sat Nav problem
Problem:
It has been heard, that there have been a few problems with the satellite navigation system, in the Peugeot 508. On some occasions there have been reported problems with the sat nav turning itself off, and problems of it not being in the right location. This could either be a software issue, or a problem with the actual device.
Solution:
Take the car to a dealer, and have them look at the sat nav for you. They will be able to diagnose the exact problem and should fix it free of charge, under warranty.

It's Very Warm Inside The Car
Problem:
The car is extremely warm when the engine is running.
Solution:
This is extremely serious and potentially lethal. Caused by the incorrect specification of the electrode alignment, what you're experiencing is called thermal runaway. If left, it will end up releasing toxic fumes into the car's interior. The only way to resolve the issue is to order a new traction/drive battery from our parts list for the Peugeot 508 and replace the faulty one.

Problem:
The car is drifting to one side while driving on a straight.
Solution:
If your 508 was built between October 2019 and January 2020, then it's likely that the wrong kind of rear suspension fixing bolts were fitted. You can order the correct bolts from our parts list and easily replace the faulty ones.
