Renault Twingo Common Problems and Solutions
Erratic Engine
Problem:
The engine is running very erratically and is quick to idle.
Solution:
You will find that you have a faulty throttle control module, which can wear out relatively quickly on the Twingo. Have a replacement throttle control module delivered by us and replace the worn one.

Knocking Sound when Turning
Problem:
You can hear a knocking sound when you start turning a corner and may also hear a clicking sound.
Solution:
If the Twingo has been driven aggressively, then there's a good chance that the front left stub axle carrier has degraded quickly. You'll need to order a replacement from our parts list and get rid of the worn one.

Window electrics problem
Problem:
This problem is again not only common on the Twingo, but on several other Renault cars. If you have noticed that the windows on the car are struggling to put up or down and are moving very sluggishly, then you have a problem with the window regulator.
Solution:
Fixing the regulator will sort the problem. Have a look at the video below to see if this helps. If you cannot fix it you will need to replace the window regulator.

Ignition key/fob problems
Problem:
It is common on these vehicles for the key fob to not open the doors and the ignition key not starting up the car. This caused by a software fault.
Solution:
You will have to take your car into a Renault garage to have the software updated. You may be able to get this done free, if your car is under warranty.

Heater problems
Problem:
Heater problems are not only a problem on the Renault Twingo, but is also a very common problem on most Renault vehicles. You may have noticed that the heater is cutting out, not working on certain settings or not blowing out hot air.
Solution:
The main cause for this is usually the blower motor resistor. It can also be the heater switch, but the first thing to try is replacing the blower motor resistor. If this does not solve your problem, try the heater switch.

Car become sluggish/losing power
Problem:
This is a common problem on these cars. It is a well known problem that they become sluggish and losing power. The usual cause for this problem is a faulty ignition coil.
Solution:
You will need to find the coil that is causing the fault and replace it. The recommendation is that you change all the ignition coils at the same time to ensure optimum performance.

Front suspension problems
Problem:
If you have noticed when you are driving along that there is a loud cracking noise coming from the front end and possibly an uneven height at the front end, you have a problem with the front suspension springs. This is a very common problem on the Renault Twingo.
Solution:
You will have to replace the faulty suspension spring to resolve the issue. It is best to replace both springs at the same time.

Non-Locking Seat Belts
Problem:
The seat belts don't lock when pulled.
Solution:
You're going to need to replace the entire seat belt assembly because a faulty seatbelt is very dangerous to drive with. Look through our store for high-quality replacements and install the new ones yourself.

Bumpy Driving
Problem:
Journeys are very bumpy.
Solution:
There was a defect on the front shock absorber mounting for the anti-roll bar rod in Twingos built in mid-2014. You'll need to look through our parts list and order a replacement mounting. You will also have to order replacement shock absorbers, which will have become damaged.

Detached Bonnet Skin
Problem:
The skin on the upper part of the bonnet is detaching, causing potential visibility issues. You may also have the same problem with the rear spoiler.
Solution:
This is down to the use of weak adhesives and is common on Twingo's built between May 2014 and December 2016. You will need to add a reinforcement strip to the bonnet skin so that it doesn't separate, which we always have in stock.

Loose Seat Belt Buckles
Problem:
The belt buckles aren't secure, and occasionally pop free.
Solution:
This fault caused a Twingo recall, and the only solution is to replace the seat belt buckles. If you leave the faulty ones, then you are going to be at risk in the case of a collision. Order replacement seat belt buckles from us, and we can deliver them straight to you.
