What is an Anti-Lock Brake Computer?
Anti-lock brake system (ABS) is an advancement in braking technology. The Anti-lock Brake Computer in an ABS braking system detects when the wheels lock up in an emergency braking situation. When the driver of the vehicle is faced with a panic situation, they may slam on the brakes, which in turn could lock up the wheels. The wheels would have some sort of sensor to detect this action and would send the information to the computer which would free up the wheels so they would keep rotating, preventing skidding and allows the driver to continue controlling the wheels with the steering wheel.
Conventional Brakes vs. Anti-Lock Brake Computer Systems
When the driver is faced with a panic situation and has to press hard on the brakes, a conventional braking system will lock up the wheels which can cause skidding and ultimately results in the driver losing control of the vehicle, which means it would take longer to stop. ABS braking systems allow the wheels to continue rotating, which gives the driver control over the vehicle from the steering wheel, preventing skidding, bringing about a quicker, safer stop.
