Daihatsu YRV Common Problems and Solutions

Reduced Brake Power

Problem:

You have less brake power than you used to have, and there may be abnormal sounds whenever you apply the brake.

Models affected:

Solution:

One or both of your front brake callipers have either seized up or broken. This can be a tricky car part to source, but we have them available for quick delivery. Installing new callipers can take time because you need to remove the tyres just to access the faulty ones. Don't forget to flush your brake fluid system once your new callipers are in place.

Clunking or Rattling Sound

Problem:

You can hear a clunking or rattling sound when driving. The car has started to handle poorly and feels unstable. There will also be excessive noise when driving over uneven surfaces.

Models affected:

Solution:

The bracket for your rear anti-roll bar has snapped. This is a known fault of the YRV, and if yours is still under warranty, then you will usually be allowed to have a free repair from a Daihatsu dealer. If not, you can order a new bracket from our parts list and easily install it.

Road Slip

Problem:

When the road is wet your YRV tends to start sliding.

Models affected:

Solution:

Check the tread of your tyres. The front tyres of the YRV are extremely prone to rapid wear and will need to be replaced much more often than you might think. While you're there, also check your front outer CV boots, as these are also known for rapid wear and will be affecting your tyres. We have durable tyres and CV boots available to order for quick delivery at BreakerYard.

Automatic gearbox problems

Problem:

Have you been experiencing any problems with poor gear changes on your automatic gearbox? If so, it could either be caused by faulty sensors, or it could be an indication that the gearbox oil needs to be changed. There are two sensors, which could potentially cause this issue: The RPM control sensor and torque management sensor.

Models affected:

Solution:

Run a diagnostic check to see if it is any of these sensors at fault. If it is, you will need to replace the faulty one. If it is not a sensor, then it means that you will need to change your automatic gearbox oil, in order to resolve the issue.

'Pinking' problem

Problem:

There is a known problem called 'Pinking'. This is a build up of carbon deposits in the engine, which is usually caused when the vehicle is used mainly for short journeys. This causes an engine rattling noise when starting from cold, which usually goes away within a few minutes once the engine has warmed up.

Models affected:

Solution:

To get rid of this 'pinking' rattling noise, you will need to change the oil and also put in a can of oil flush. This should fix the problem.

Engine management warning light

Problem:

The lambda sensor is prone to failure on the YRV and other Daihatsu vehicles. If you have noticed that the engine management warning light has appeared on the dashboard, this will be the most likely cause. The Lambda sensor is another name for oxygen sensor. You may not notice any performance problems with this fault, but alternatively you could find that you have an increased fuel consumption and possibly a slight loss of power.

Models affected:

Solution:

There are two lambda sensors on your vehicle, pre-cat and post-cat. You will need to run a diagnostic check, to correctly identify which one is at fault. Once identified, you will need to fit a replacement sensor, in order to resolve the issue. We want to help you to find a replacement lambda sensor, at a very low price. The video below will give you an idea on how to change the lambda sensor:
