The Flasher Unit is what makes the turn signals in your car work. It is a small device that is cylindrical and can be found in the dashboard fuse panel.
When you want to indicate you simply push up or down the turn signal stalk and it connects to the Flasher Unit by way of a circuit that goes to the signal lights.
When the indicator stalk is pushed up or down electric power is sent to a coil which when the electricity goes through it creates an electromagnetic field. This field pulls a metal arm which opens a contact. The open contact breaks the circuit and the spring pulls back closing that circuit which then sends power to the coil again. This switching on and off of the circuit causes the lights to go on and off.
