What is a Master Cylinder?
The master cylinder is a device that contains valves and pistons which control the amount of fluid transferred from the container/reservoir to the appropriate hydraulic system. The master cylinder works when there is applied pressure (usually from the driver of the vehicles foot) which in turn is transferred into hydraulic pressure to release the correct amount of fluid to the system in question. The system in question would usually be the braking system, where the brake fluid would be released from the container to the brakes when pressure was applied on the brake pedal from the driver of the vehicle.
