Hyundai i10 Common Problems and Solutions
No Radio Signal
Problem:
You can sometimes get a weak radio signal while driving, but usually, you get no signal at all.
Solution:
This is a factory assembly problem and is caused by the aerial not being connected correctly. In most cases, you should be able to simply apply pressure to the aerial so that it slots into place. However, you may find that it's become too worn as a result of the incorrect connection, and you'll have to find a replacement from BreakerYard.

Noisy Engine
Problem:
The engine has become a lot louder than it used to be.
Solution:
There are a couple of reasons why your engine is getting louder. Check your air filter isn't clogged, and if it is, then give it a good clean. If the noise persists, then you'll need to order spark plugs from our parts list and replace them.
Difficulty level
Gear Shift Lock
Problem:
The car won't let you move out of first gear.
Solution:
This can be a very dangerous fault to develop, but it's not uncommon in the i10. It's being caused by a faulty transmission shift solenoid, which you will need to replace. We always have replacement solenoids in-store and can deliver the replacement straight to you.
Difficulty level
Slipping When Changing Gears
Problem:
The gears are slipping between certain shifts.
Solution:
You will have some level of degradation on your transmission line. You will have to look through our parts lists for a suitable replacement, remove the worn-out one, and install the fresh one. You should also check the flywheel while you're there because that can be damaged when the transmission line is on the way out and may also need to be replaced.
Difficulty level
Starter Issues
Problem:
The car struggles to start.
Solution:
The immobiliser and the key are not able to communicate, resulting in the starting problem. It's due to an electrical fault inside the immobiliser, so unless you've had specialist training, you're going to need to head to a dealer who will be able to reprogram the electronic receiver.
Difficulty level
Failing Brakes
Problem:
The braking power is not as good as it used to be.
Solution:
The i10 is well-known for being great in terms of brake disc durability but downright hostile to brake pads. Replace the brake pads that you can order from us, and don't forget to check the brake cylinders as these too may need to be replaced in older models with a lot of miles on the clock.

Loud Rushing Liquid Noise From Cold Start
Problem:
When starting the car from cold, the engine is making a noise you weren't expecting.
Solution:
This is a common report, but it's nothing to worry about. It's simply the oil draining away from the hydraulic filters and should be expected.

Headlight adjustment problems
Problem:
It has been known for the headlight adjustment not to work on this car. This is caused by a fault with the adjuster switch. If you try to adjust the headlights and it does not work, this will be the cause. The video below shows these headlights:
Solution:
You will need to replace the adjuster switch to resolve the issue. This should be covered under warranty, but if not we can help you find a replacement one at a very low price.

Starting Problems
Problem:
There are known issues with the immobiliser on the i10. There can be a communication problem between the key and immobiliser caused by a fault in the electronic receiver on the immobiliser. This issue leads to starting problems and is caused by a spurious code.
Solution:
You need to take the car to a dealer who will need to re-program the electronic receiver. This should be covered under warranty.

Loose floor mats
Problem:
The floor mats on this car are secured in place, but they are prone to coming loose. The mats are screwed down, however they are known for not being secured in place well enough.
Solution:
You will need to re-drill the holes and re-fit the carpets to fix this problem.
Difficulty level
Fuel flap problem
Problem:
There is a known issue with the fuel flap not opening on the i10. This flap should open when you click the interior switch. If it does not open, it is caused by an issue with the bracket.
Solution:
This issue will still be covered under warranty, but if it is not, you can make the adjustment yourself. You just need to bend the bracket very slightly towards the hinge end of the flap (away from the plastic catch) and this should allow the flap to open in future.
Difficulty level
Slipping Clutch
Problem:
The clutch has started to slip and may judder occasionally.
Solution:
This is usually a good sign that your clutch is close to wearing out, and the sooner you tackle the issue, the better. If you catch it in time, then you can order a replacement clutch unit from our parts list and install it. Leave it too late, and the entire clutch system will degrade, and you'll have to replace the entire assembly.
Difficulty level
AirCon Failure
Problem:
The AC has stopped working.
Solution:
Unfortunately, fixing this issue is not going to be a simple matter of cleaning it out. The AC on Hyundais needs to be regassed occasionally, and it's not cheap. You can buy re-gas kits, but these are very expensive, and if you do it wrong, you could do more harm. Take the i10 to a Hyundai dealer and pay to have it regassed.
